Which birds do you normally hear in the northern hemisphere in late summer?

Mocking birds and starlings are both supposed to be able to mimic other sounds, and I'm sure there are other species that winter in your area that do the same also. So it's possible that they making sounds that they hear (such as a neighbors swinging iron gate).
