Indian girl's nose piercing?

Is this a custom in India to get a girl's nose pierced? If yes, why? Do all indian girls have to get their nose pierced? My elder brother will soon take me for the piercing. I suggested that I would want to wear a clip on, but he is not agreeing, he says it is customary in India to wear a nose ornament and the piercing has to happen. please advice
